Welcome to
Taunton's first Masonic Lodge

The Lodge of  Unanimity and Sincerity No. 261 first received its warrant in 1788 when the Lodge met in Ilminster. Five years later they moved to Taunton. Initially they met in the London Inn, then later in Clarke's Hotel. Finally the Lodge acquired what is now the Taunton Masonic Hall in the late 19th Century.

Currently nine Lodges and thirteen Progressive Orders regularly meet here making this one of the busiest and most friendly of all the Masonic centres in Somerset.

A warm welcome from the Master Pete Richards.

Having so much history and tradition makes us a unique lodge in more ways than one. We have our own ritual which means that the ceremonies we perform here you will not see anywhere else.

We are also the only lodge in Somerset to have an affiliated lodge; Kempsville Lodge No.196 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA with whom we share many joint ventures and trans-Atlantic fraternal visits.

You could say that we are truly a lodge with a foot in the past but an eye on the future.

If you would like to know more about our lodge, what we do or Freemasonry in general, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us through our 'Contact Us' page. We look forward to hearing from you.

Who's who?

MASTER OF THE LODGE
W. Bro. Pete Richards
There is no greater honour for a Freemason than when he becomes installed into the "Chair" as the Lodge's Master. The Master oversees everyone and everything in the Lodge and most Brethren feel both pleased and anxious in taking on this important role.
The Master has various tasks and duties to perform, not least ensuring that all the Officers in the Lodge are carrying out their duties efficiently, but he is assisted in doing this with various subordinates such as the Wardens and Deacons.

W. Bro. Pete Richards was installed as Master of the Lodge of Unanimity and Sincerity in January 2025

LODGE SECRETARY
W. Bro. Chris Pa
rtridge
PPrSGD
The role of Secretary is one of the most important in the Lodge. The Lodge Secretary handles all the Lodge's administration and keeps a record of the Lodge proceedings. He is responsible for issuing the summons for each meeting and making returns to both the Grand and Provincial Grand Lodges.

We are fortunate to have W. Bro. Chris Partridge in this key role as Chris has been involved with both Freemasonry and the Lodge of Unanimity and Sincerity for nearly 20 years and hence there's little he doesn't know about what's going on either within the Lodge or indeed the Province of Somerset.
